NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
Volunteers Are the Backbone of Basketball
National Volunteer Week - 19 to 25 May 2026
National Volunteer Week, a Volunteering Australia intiative, is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering, and in basketball, it hits close to home.
Every game played, every training session run, and every competition delivered is made possible by the dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy to our sport. Without them, there are no coaches to develop our players, no drivers to get our teams where they need to be, no scoretable officials to keep the game running, and no committee members working behind the scenes to keep our clubs and associations alive. They are the reason our teams get to the court.
During this special week, we encourage our associations and clubs to celebrate the volunteers in their communities, share their stories, and help raise awareness of the incredible difference they make, not just to basketball, but to the lives of everyone who plays it.
Ways to Get Involved
We encourage your Association / Club to plan an activity that best suits your community and volunteers. Whether it's a small gesture or a club-wide event, every effort to recognise your volunteers is valuable.
Celebrate and Recognise Your Volunteers

- - Hold amid-game recognition moment at a Senior match.
- - Ask your president, head coaches, or players to share personal thank you
- messages.
- - Celebrate both long-serving clubvolunteers and first-time volunteers side by
- side.
Share Stories and Build Visibility
- - Run a social media campaign across your club's channels thanking the volunteers
- who keep your competitions running.
- - Spotlight your coaches, technical officials, and committee members through short
