Basketball Victoria Awards
Basketball Victoria celebrates the outstanding achievements of its community each year with the Basketball Victoria Awards.
The Basketball Victoria Awards celebrate the best and brightest within the Victorian basketball community across the calendar year.
From our elite international players, to our hard-working associations and the volunteers that keep our sport going, this event celebrates all who are involved within Victorian basketball.
These accolades and achievements have been won over the years by a number of incredible athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers. The likes of Matthew Dellavedova, Penny Taylor, Andrew Gaze, Andrew Bogut and Jenna O’Hea are just a few of the famous names to receive Basketball Victoria Awards.
Associations are encouraged to nominate long serving individuals from within their association for a Basketball Victoria Service Award. These long service awards are divided into the following categories:
- BRONZE – 15 years service
- SILVER – 25 years service
- GOLD – 35 years service
- DIAMOND – 50 or more years service
Jack Carter Memorial Award
This award is given to the Basketball Administrator of the Year. The award recognises an administrator for their outstanding contribution to Victorian basketball during 2021. The administrator may be recognised for their work in areas such as developmental activities, management skills, marketing activities or financial achievements. In addition recognition for keeping Associations operating in applying for grants and managing any staff.

Jack Terril Medal
The Jack Terrill Medal is named in honour of the former Basketball Victoria Country founding President and long-time Basketball Victoria Country Council Member, the late Mr Jack Terrill. This annual award recognises a significant and outstanding contribution by an individual to Basketball in Country Victoria. Made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on basketball in their community. Consistently demonstrated the highest standards and qualities with actions recognised and valued by their peers and/or general acknowledgement as having reached a pinnacle in basketball.

Coach of the Year
This award recognises a coach who has made a significant contribution to the sport during 2021. The coach should exhibit knowledge of the game (rules, systems, coaching philosophy), rapport with the team and respect from players, ethical conduct both on and off the court, development of players, win/loss record, involvement within the association, community involvement and respect for and from other coaches and officials. In addition, involvement in online engagement during lockdowns.

This award recognises an outstanding association that experienced significant achievements in 2021. The selection committee will consider achievements such as membership and participation engagement, new program development, strategic planning, marketing and promotion of the game online, social media engagement, player, coach, referee, volunteer development, and being up to date with Basketball Victoria policies, procedures and fees. All associations, small or large, will be judged according to their achievements during the past year.

Inclusive Basketball Association of the Year
This Award recognises the contribution an Association has made for All Ability athletes during 2021. The selection committee will consider initiatives made by the Association that assisted in keeping AA athletes engaged and involved in activities throughout the year. Junior Program of the Year The following criteria will be considered in selecting the winning association, competition and programs at domestic and representative levels, co-ordination of clinics and other development activities and programs. In addition, online engagement with junior members/parents, online clinics, activities and zoom sessions.

Charles Ryan Wheelchair Basketball Athlete of the Year
This award is presented to a wheelchair athlete who has progressed to represent at a state, national or international level of competition during 2021 overseas. Athletes must also have displayed good sportsmanship and have represented the state or country in a manner befitting the responsibility.

Victorian Junior Awards
Like the Alan Hughes and Betty Watson medals, these awards are to be given to the Victorian junior male and female (under 18 years) who has made the greatest contribution and achievements during the year. The junior player must have made a significant contribution to basketball, exhibited a high level of commitment to both practice and games schedule. The player may have been selected in a state team, may be a VNPP/SDP athlete, and may have been selected to represent Australia. Other elements taken into consideration include ethical conduct, leadership, teamwork, communication, commitment and loyalty, work ethic, ambassadorship – good representative of the sport, respect for coaches, team-mates, opponents and officials, fair play, sportsmanship and recognising there needs to be a balance between academic and sporting life.
