Elected as President: 2017 First Elected to the Board: 2015 Mike Bainbridge is the current Basketball Victoria president and has been on the Basketball Victoria board since 2015. Mike’s history in both the professional and sporting world has seen him excel in all fields, having worked throughout his life in computer programming and aligned industry, while also starring in an elite basketball career. As an elite player, Mike was a junior Victorian representative and star player in senior basketball with Melbourne East Demons, winning two state titles 1968 and 1969, before shifting to coaching. As a coach, Mike led five junior Victorian state teams to the Australian Junior Championships and was named SEABL Coach of the Year twice alongside two championship victories and a SEABL National Coach of the Year accolade. Having retired in 2005, Mike continues to work in on passion projects that support the growth of community sport and bettering community values. He recently volunteered on the Government’s Crime Prevention Taskforce and a number of consultancy roles within suicide prevention, food and beverage and across IT. Mike enjoys positions that give him personal satisfaction and allows him to be a part of a successful result for the end user. A strong communicator with a flair for building strong working relationships, built on years of basketball experience as both an elite player and coach, Mike continues to devote his time to basketball as a long-serving member of the Basketball Victoria Board. |
KYLIE BISHOP

First Elected to the Board: 2019 Kylie is a registered Psychologist and was appointed to the role of Group Executive, People & Culture at Medibank, an ASX50 publicly listed company, in 2013. Kylie is responsible for leading the key people functions across the business including remuneration, capability and talent, environmental, social & governance (ESG), and culture amongst others. Kylie began her career in human resources consulting, specialising in organisational psychology. Kylie holds a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology from Monash University, an Honours degree in Psychology from Federation University and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Psychophysiology at Swinburne University. Kylie was previously a Director with Rugby Victoria and having grown up in rural Victoria is passionate about the positive role sport can play in society. |
JOHN GDANSKI

First Elected to the Board: 2019 John brings an impressive 30 years of broad legal expertise to SLF Lawyers. Whilst his client base is vast and diverse, John’s main focus now is in the areas of Property, Corporate and Commercial. John oversees a team of property, conveyancing and commercial litigation specialists and offers decades of knowledge and wisdom to his practice. He has demonstrable success in providing Legal and Strategic representation for clients in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors advising them with respect to their high-rise developments, tax structuring and trusts, corporate reconstructions, joint ventures and banking and finance matters, to name a few, across the property, finance, hospitality, sport and charity spaces. John has served on the board for organisations including St Kilda Football Club Ltd and Ciaron Maher Racing as well as not-for-profit organisations and charities. He has also served as a committee member for Management Committees in the Property and Construction Industries. With these strong links to the AFL, Basketball, Swimming, Horse Racing, Netball and hospitality industries, John is well-connected across most States in Australia. He is best known for his colloquial tone, approachability and modest attire making John a well-respected ‘crowd favourite’ both amongst his clients, peers and colleagues. |
BRETT ROLFE

First Elected to the Board: 2016 Appointment to Commissions and Committees: Country Commission (BV appointed), Senior Representative Commission Brett Rolfe has been involved in basketball for more than 40 years in many different capacities. Brett’s knowledge of the sport and dedication to playing, coaching and administration shows his passion for the whole of the sport. In his professional career, Brett has worked for Nissan for over 38 years in a number of positions within Information Technology which include managing security, disaster recovery, customer support, telecommunications to name a couple . In basketball over the years Brett has been involved as a Board Member at Southern Peninsula and Frankston Associations as well as a Commissioner on the Big V (Senior Representative Commission), the Basketball Victoria Country Commission and a member of the VJBL Competitions Sub-Committee, while serving on a number of other committees within Basketball in Victoria. Brett’s involvement in all these areas of the sport and employment history also showing he works at a high capacity and has sound management skills that bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and commitment to Basketball Victoria. |
BECKY HYDE

First Elected to the Board: 2017 Becky Hyde is Senior Executive Overseas and Corporate Business at Medibank, one of Australia’s leading Health Insurance companies. She has over 20 years international experience as a Portfolio Director spanning fast moving consumer goods and the health sector. With a passion for marketing and communications Becky’s career started in communications when she graduated from her BA Management and Marketing. Progressing quickly with JWT Becky moved to Singapore at 27 to manage the Kraft Foods account for Asia Pacific. With 11 countries reporting to her she developed a deep understanding of how to mine insights across a broad range Asian cultures. She formed part of Kraft Regional Growth team developing strategies for entry into developing markets such as China, India and Vietnam. Becky then took up the position as Chief Marketing Officer for an Australian Biotechnology company that owns IP with applications in food, nutraceutical and pharmaceuticals aimed at curbing the onset of diabetes and obesity in the global population. She took responsibility for brand and product development, marketing and PR, IP management and business development, working internationally with companies such as Coca Cola, Tate and Lyle, Domino Foods, Cargill to commercialise the IP. Becky has a passion for health and in her current role as Senior Executive Overseas and Corporate Business is working closely with major Corporations to develop strategies to improve the health & wellbeing of Australians and non-residents in Australia. Becky is currently a non-executive Board member of St Catherine’s School (a leading private girls school in Victoria) and a non-executive board member of Basketball Victoria |
KATIE ROWE

Appointed to the Board: 2017 Katie currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the Sport Management Program at Deakin University. In this role, Katie conducts research that focuses on sport participation, women and girls in sport and sport for social development. She also teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students and is Course Director for the Bachelor of Sport Development. Katie recently co-edited a book entitled developing sport for women and girls, which focuses issues of relevance to the participation, performance and engagement of women and girls in sport. Katie's educational background includes a PhD in sport development, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise & Sport Science), a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education. She has previously served as a Board Member and Secretary with the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ). Katie is passionate about encouraging people, particularly women and girls, to participate in sport and identifying opportunities to make sport environments more welcoming and inclusive. |
TRACEY BROWNING

First Elected to the Board: 2021 Tracey Browning is a former Australian Opal and five-time WNBL champion and former Victorian junior state representative. She earned WNBL Life Membership and is the current Southside Flyers WNBL general manager. Browning is proud to have been elected to the Board and aims to create new growth opportunities for all within our sport. |
MICHELLE BRUGGEMAN

First Elected to the Board: 2021 Michelle is the current Melbourne Zoos Director and a former deputy CEO of YMCA Victoria. Bruggeman brings a wealth of experience to the Board in business management, corporate services, governance, project and operational service management in the Corporate, Government and Non-Profit sectors. Bruggeman is proud to be involved with the Basketball Victoria Board to give back to basketball and help our associations prosper. |
Commissions
Under our constitution, Basketball Victoria is governed by a Board of Directors (Board), which oversees the operation of four Commissions chartered to assist the Board in ensuring basketball in Victoria operates effectively. These four Commissions are the Senior Representative Commission, Junior Representative Commission, Country Commission and Technical Officials Commission.
