Elected as President: 2023 First Elected to the Board: 2021 Michelle is the current Melbourne Zoos Director and a former deputy CEO of YMCA Victoria. Bruggeman brings a wealth of experience to the Board in business management, corporate services, governance, project and operational service management in the Corporate, Government and Non-Profit sectors. Bruggeman is proud to be involved with the Basketball Victoria Board to give back to basketball and help our associations prosper. |
KYLIE BISHOP

First Elected to the Board: 2019 Kylie is a registered Psychologist and was appointed to the role of Group Executive, People & Culture at Medibank, an ASX50 publicly listed company, in 2013. Kylie is responsible for leading the key people functions across the business including remuneration, capability and talent, environmental, social & governance (ESG), and culture amongst others. Kylie began her career in human resources consulting, specialising in organisational psychology. Kylie holds a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology from Monash University, an Honours degree in Psychology from Federation University and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Psychophysiology at Swinburne University. Kylie was previously a Director with Rugby Victoria and having grown up in rural Victoria is passionate about the positive role sport can play in society. |
JOHN GDANSKI

First Elected to the Board: 2019 John brings an impressive 30 years of broad legal expertise to SLF Lawyers. Whilst his client base is vast and diverse, John’s main focus now is in the areas of Property, Corporate and Commercial. John oversees a team of property, conveyancing and commercial litigation specialists and offers decades of knowledge and wisdom to his practice. He has demonstrable success in providing Legal and Strategic representation for clients in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors advising them with respect to their high-rise developments, tax structuring and trusts, corporate reconstructions, joint ventures and banking and finance matters, to name a few, across the property, finance, hospitality, sport and charity spaces. John has served on the board for organisations including St Kilda Football Club Ltd and Ciaron Maher Racing as well as not-for-profit organisations and charities. He has also served as a committee member for Management Committees in the Property and Construction Industries. With these strong links to the AFL, Basketball, Swimming, Horse Racing, Netball and hospitality industries, John is well-connected across most States in Australia. He is best known for his colloquial tone, approachability and modest attire making John a well-respected ‘crowd favourite’ both amongst his clients, peers and colleagues. |
TINA MCKENZIE |
A distinguished athlete, Tina represented Australia in the Paralympics, captaining the Australian women's wheelchair basketball team from 2009 to 2011. Tina's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education from Macquarie University, along with Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) from Lifeline. With her diverse experience and dedication, Tina continues to inspire and lead in her professional and sporting endeavors.
Tina's career at Allianz includes roles such as Communication and Technical Coach for Personal Injury, where she delivered induction programs and one-on-one coaching, and as a Learning and Development Trainer, where she facilitated best practice case management programs and provided strategic guidance. Her earlier roles at Allianz include Senior Long Tail Case Manager, Medical Management Case Manager, Corporate High Risk Case Manager, and Corporate Low Risk Case Manager. |
LORI CHIZIK

First Elected to the Board: 2024 A true trailblazer for women in basketball, Lori brings significant credentials in basketball spanning over 40 years. Following a playing career in which she represented Canada and her university, as well as playing three seasons in the WNBL, Lori has made her name in Australia as a basketball coach. She led the Nunawading Spectres to the Triple Crown in 1989 (Australian Club Championship, State Championship, W.N.B.L. Championship) before heading home in 1992 to coach in Canada. In 1996 she was back to coach the Bulleen Boomers and was named WNBL Coach of the Year that year. She was an Assistant Coach/Selector with the Australian National Team, culminating in their silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. That year she left the Boomers to become an Assistant Coach with the Victorian Titans NBL team - the first female to coach in the league. From 2002 - 2010 she was the Head Coach of the Sandringham Sabres women's team in the ABA, and has been Head Coach of basketball at Wesley College since 1999. She also coached the U20 Victorian State team for 7 years. Later, she was again involved with the Australian National team as an assistant coach for four years and travelled through much of Europe, China, Japan, USA and went to the World Championships in Turkey and the Olympics in Rio. Lori has coached across many levels of basketball - school, club, state, international, men/women, boys/girls and when she first arrived in Australia worked at Basketball Victoria as a referees administrator. She continues her involvement in basketball as a commentator with the WNBL and also FIBA media for the Women's World Cup, Asia Cup and Olympic Qualifiers. Lori believes sport is a highly visible and powerful force today and feels addressing the glaring issue of dwindling females holding leadership roles throughout the spectrum of sport is a must.

PETER MEEHAN |
First appointed to Board: 2022 Peter is an experienced business professional who has worked across the Australian business landscape throughout his career. His history includes being a Deakin University Council Member and Deputy Chancellor, Group of 100 CEO/Executive Director, Australia Post CFO and a number of positions within accounting. Peter has also been heavily involved in community basketball, having held a number of positions at Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club including president and executive committee member.
From 2002 - 2010 she was the Head Coach of the Sandringham Sabres women's team in the ABA, and has been Head Coach of basketball at Wesley College since 1999. She also coached the U20 Victorian State team for 7 years. Commissions
Under our constitution, Basketball Victoria is governed by a Board of Directors (Board), which oversees the operation of four Commissions chartered to assist the Board in ensuring basketball in Victoria operates effectively. These four Commissions are the Senior Representative Commission, Junior Representative Commission, Country Commission and Technical Officials Commission.
