About The Grant
The Basketball Victoria Facility Planning Grant Program is a landmark initiative designed to support the planning and development of future basketball facilities across Victoria.
Through the program, Basketball Victoria will invest a total of $250,000, with up to five grants of $50,000 available to eligible organisations.
The program responds to the continued growth of basketball participation and the increasing demand for accessible, high-quality and fit-for-purpose facilities. While many communities have strong ideas for new or improved basketball facilities, projects can face significant barriers during the early planning stages.
This grant supports the critical work required to move facility projects from an initial idea towards future delivery. Funding may be used for activities such as feasibility studies, master planning, concept development, business case preparation and other project-readiness initiatives.
Eligible applicants include Basketball Victoria affiliated associations, Victorian local government bodies, and Victorian schools, TAFEs and universities that demonstrate a commitment to basketball participation and community access.
Testimonials
SMC Strategies
“Many community infrastructure projects struggle to progress beyond an idea because organisations lack resources to undertake the planning work required to build a compelling case for investment. Vision refinement, option identification, feasibility studies, master plans and business cases are often the catalysts for progressing a concept to a deliverable project and ensuring sustained community benefit.
From our experience working with all tiers of Government, sporting organisations and community stakeholders, the Basketball Victoria Facility Planning Grant addresses a genuine gap in the project development process.
Furthermore, by funding early-stage planning, the program will help create a stronger pipeline of investment-ready projects of high value to community. It will also help nurture the partnerships required to bring future basketball facilities to life across Victoria”.

Whitehorse City Council
"Planning and design funding is often the critical first step in turning community infrastructure aspirations into reality.
For the Nunawading Basketball Stadium redevelopment project, early funding to support feasibility and concept design would have accelerated our ability to assess options, engage stakeholders, and develop a robust business case, helping fast-track the project towards delivery.
Programs such as Basketball Victoria's Facility Planning Grant provide councils and associations with the opportunity to move projects from concept to investment-ready, creating a more compelling narrative for a shovel-ready development that is responding to growing community demand and participation growth."

Frankston & District Basketball Association – Member Association
"The collaboration between each level of Government, Frankston City Council, Frankston and District Basketball Association, and Basketball Victoria was key to the eventual redevelopment of the original and inadequate six-court facility into the world-class Frankston Stadium, featuring 10 courts, a show court, café and function centre.
Frankston City Council's commitment to undertaking a feasibility study, followed by planning and design work, was critical. Without this investment, the redevelopment would not have occurred.
The Basketball Victoria initiative to invest in facility planning will help make the case for, and demonstrate the importance to society of, developing and redeveloping basketball facilities. This investment by Basketball Victoria is to be commended for its commitment to participation in sport, which is critical to both physical and mental fitness. "
