Mental Health and Wellbeing
Basketball Victoria can assist associations with finding mental health and wellbeing resources and helping create safe spaces for young people in a trusted network where people feel socially connected.
High numbers of young people participate in organised sport, meaning that clubs, leagues and associations can provide an important context outside schools where positive messages, mental health education and guidance regarding support services can be provided.
In June 2020, Basketball Victoria’s Justine Salida and Frank Arsego held a webinar to discuss an athlete’s wellbeing, as well as basketball participant’s mental health and what steps you can endure to maintain a positive outlook.

There are a number of government resources to help assist you in creating these positive spaces within your association including the Welcome to Head to Health website – which can help you find Australian digital mental health and wellbeing resources, for yourself or for someone you care about – as well as VicHealth’s list of Ten go-to mental health organisations for young people.
