Basketball Victoria is thrilled to announce the venues and dates for the 2025 Junior Country Championship (JCC) tournaments, and we are excited to announce three new venues! The selected host venues are Red Energy Arena in Bendigo, Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat, Cobblebank Indoor Stadium Melton, Melton Indoor Recreation Centre and Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) in Bacchus Marsh. This will be the first time in JCC history that we have held the tournament in Bacchus Marsh and Melton. which will be hosting the Under 16 and Under 18, Divisions 3, 4 and 5. As a gateway between the city and country, it’s a great opportunity to host teams from all over the state and really showcase what we have to offer as a major contributor to the sport of basketball in years to come.”
The Basketball Victoria team and the hosting associations are working hard to build on the success of the 2024 JCCs, which featured 337 of the best teams from across country Victoria, with competition held over four weekends in a round robin style tournament. This culminated in a series of knockout rounds and grand final matches to determine the champions, which were held throughout the first three months of 2024. All 2025 host venues are excited for the tournaments to launch.
Nev Ivey, Chief Executive Officer of Ballarat Basketball Association, cannot wait to host the JCCs in 2025: “Basketball Ballarat is thrilled to bring the Junior Country Championships back to the Ballarat region. It will be great to see the best Under 14s showcase their skills at regional Victoria’s premier basketball facility. These Championships also represent a significant boost to the local economy.”
The JCCs are held annually for boys and girls in the Under 12 to Under 18 age groups, spanning divisions from 1 to 5. All regional Victorian affiliated associations are eligible to nominate teams for the tournaments. The tournaments provide a great opportunity for athletes, coaches, and families to experience high-level competitive basketball, helping to elevate and develop their skills.
A permanent fixture on Basketball Victoria's calendar since the late 1960s, the JCCs have consistently served as a launching pad for country athletes who have achieved national and international acclaim. Notable alumni include Jack White, Jade Melbourne, Dyson and Dash Daniels, Jaz Shelley, Matthew Dellavedova, Shaun Bruce, and Mitchell Creek among others.
Sarah Szczykulski, Country Competitions Officer, Basketball Victoria, expressed her anticipation for the upcoming championships, “It’s so good to see the country junior athletes given the opportunity to take to the court and play against teams from across Victoria. The families all make such a big effort and some travel huge distances to support their young basketballers.”
