The best 128 junior teams from across three states have earned their places in the 2023 National Junior Classic to be held across the King's Birthday weekend 10-12 June.
Victorian invitations were sent to affiliated associations based off their performances in the Victorian Junior Basketball League, with selected Junior Country Championship winners also invited to represent regional Victoria. The Victorians will take on teams from South Australia and New South Wales to compete in the peak elite junior invitational tournament.
The assocations that are leading the way with the amount of teams that have been invited is Sandringham, Kilsyth, Dandenong and Casey all with seven teams across the age groups set to compete, whilst the South Australian teams have qualified strongly with seven teams from Norwood Flames and six teams from Forestville , whilst we will see four top teams from Canberra making the trip down to compete.
The regional Victorian teams to qualify are-Warrnambool-Under 12 Girls, Traralgon-Under 12 and Under 14 Boys, Wodonga-Under 18 Men, Moe-Under 14 Girls and Korumburra-Under 18 Women.
The invitation-only event is capped at 16 teams per age group with invitations to the Classic extended to the top interstate teams and the highest-ranking eligible Victorian VJBL teams and selected Junior Country Championships winning teams.
The National Junior Classic is held at the State Basketball Centre and Dandenong Basketball Stadium. Entry is free for all spectators.
