Basketball Victoria would like to extend our condolences to Patricia Vaughan and her family following the passing of Keith Vaughan last week.
Keith was a stalwart of the VBRA, having been awarded life membership in 1973 followed by VBRA Service awards in 1989 and 2020, plus a “Diamond” 50 Year service award from Basketball Victoria.
He was instrumental in training and mentoring many successful officials during the years he was an advisor at Knox Basketball, a position he held for 10 years. During this time, he revolutionised the teaching of officials and was instrumental in developing the foundations of the education program at the association. Keith also served as mentor and coach to a whole generation of young referees that were coming through the ranks, including several who made it high up the pathway.
It’s fair to say that his love and passion for developing basketball officials centred around his local association. Over the years he held multiple committee positions, including President of the Knox Branch and was a Life Member.
Keith was known to be ‘tough but fair’ - if Keith said you were ok as a referee, you certainly were!
He will be missed and fondly remembered for his openness, devotion and contributions over many years.
Thank you and RIP Keith.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Keith Charles Vaughan will be held at Le Pine Funerals, 137 Princes Hwy, Dandenong, on Tuesday 20th September, commencing at 2PM.
