Basketball Victoria is saddened to hear of the tragic passing of former Victorian state team player and coach Dale Ryan.
A long-time contributor to Victorian basketball as a player and coach, Dale represented Victoria with pride and passion as a player in the 1980s and made the transition to coaching later in life and was an assistant coach with our Victorian Under-20 Men that won gold in 2016. He was also an Australian U19 assistant coach and worked across the country pursuing his ambitions.
Dale worked for Basketball Victoria briefly within the coach education space and his family and he worked in player and coach development throughout his career in a number of roles across Australia and beyond.
He pursued his passion for basketball across the world – taking his coaching to England, Spain and across Australia – highlighted by his time with the Brisbane Bullets winning the NBL Championship in 2007.
He was a passionate contributor to basketball at all levels and worked hard to improve our sport across his time in the game.
We would like to send our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Dale at this time.
Vale.
