Basketball Victoria is proud to announce Kumon as the naming rights partner of the Kumon Country Metro Challenge and Kumon Classic.
The Kumon Country Metro Challenge, held in January 2022, is a brand-new all-Victorian tournament to give our athletes a chance to hone their skills and develop within the Victorian High Performance pathway as elite preparation for Australian Junior Championships.
The Kumon Classic, held on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June each year, will be back in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to lockdowns and border closures.
The elite tournament features 128 of Australia’s best junior basketball teams across Under-12 Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 boys and girls age groups and is a highlight on the Australian basketball calendar.
Basketball Victoria CEO Nick Honey said having Kumon on board as a naming rights partner for these elite tournaments highlights how important it is to encourage Young Victorians to succeed in all aspects of life.
“Kumon and Basketball Victoria know just how important it is to give high-level opportunities for young people to develop,” Honey said. “Our organisations both encourage children and teenagers to find ways to succeed and thrive - whether it’s on the basketball court, in the classroom or on the way to joining the professional workplace.
“Giving Victorian junior players a chance to excel drives many of our programs and we’re proud to partner with Kumon to bring this to life.
“With basketball returning to courts across Victoria in recent weeks, we’re excited to get back to hosting major tournaments and look forward to having Kumon on board with the Kumon Classic and the Kumon Country Metro Challenge.”
Scott Quilty, Division Leader of Kumon Victoria, said Kumon is thrilled to partner with Basketball Victoria.
“We are proud to support an organisation like Basketball Victoria that shares our passion for helping young people to reach their potential,” Quilty said.
“Kumon provides children with strong skills in mathematics and English, and the confidence to excel academically. We see this partnership as a way for both of our organisations to help children grow into confident, well-rounded adults”.
Kumon is the world’s largest provider of mathematics and English after-school education programmes, with more than 13,400 students throughout Victoria and operating for over 60 years globally.
