The Country Awards were celebrated at Bendigo on the weekend where we recognised the contributions and achievements of the country Victorian Associations throughout 2023
There were many deserving winners, and the morning offered a chance for our regional associations to get together and network with each other. The prestigious Jack Terrill Medal is named in honour of former Basketball Victoria Country founding President and long-time Basketball Victoria Country Council Member, the late Mr. Jack Terrill. Jack, who passed away in 1973, was one of the driving forces behind the formation of Basketball Victoria Country. This award recognises a significant and outstanding contribution to Basketball in Country Victoria.
The Jack Terrill Medal for 2023 was awarded to Swan Hill’s Sharon Denham.
Sharon is recognised for her dedication and extraordinary contribution to not only the Swan Hill Basketball Association and the community, but for her service to basketball across country Victoria.
Sharon has had a long and valued commitment to the development of the association. Her drive and focus on continuously learning and developing the best out of the Swan Hill athletes, coaches and committee members is truly incredible.
The Outstanding Achievement by a Large Association is another notable award that acknowledges the hard work and dedication of a country association that has made an outstanding contribution to the basketball community, this year it was awarded to Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association (BPBA).
The significant contributions made by the BPBA to basketball in Victoria during 2023 reflect an unwavering commitment to excellence and growth in various facets of the sport. Through numerous community-focused initiatives, including school visits, school holiday camps, and participation in Aussie Hoops and Slam Jam, the association has made substantial contributions to the local basketball community. The association is also committed to the development of athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators and has included great on court success in 2023.
David Huxtable, General Manager of Members Participation and Growth attended the awards and enjoyed being part of the awards celebration, “It is great to witness and be a part of Victorian country basketball, the community spirit and the willingness of our country volunteers always amazes me.
