The most common place to start is as a referee. Referees officiate all levels of basketball where they learn communication skills, teamwork and conflict resolution. If you are interested in becoming a referee please click this button so we can best determine the association(s) most relevant to you: Expression of Interest Form A referee's training and development is supported by Referee Educators. Referee Educators go through extensive training to understand not only the technical side to officiating but how to coach, assess and ultimately develop the referees to reach their highest potential. A number of referees also become a Scoretable Official or a Statistician. Being a scoretable official or statistician is a rewarding journey as you have the opportunity to support the game of basketball using your technical knowledge, whilst having one of the best seats in the house. |
Becoming a RefereeRefereeing provides you with an opportunity to be rewarded for your commitment to the game, engage at times that suit your work or lifestyle, be physically active, meet new people, make new friends and share many great experiences. Referees develop many skills which are transferable into everyday life such as confidence, decision making, communication, conflict resolution, time management and teamwork. As you can see below, refereeing is a journey that can take you to the WNBL, NBL and Olympics!! Becoming a Referee CoachBeing involved in Referee Education provides you with the opportunity to view the game from a different perspective. You are provided the opportunity to support officials with their development, be a leader within your local association, and pass on your knowledge and experience to other officials. As you can see below, referee coaching is a journey that can take you to the WNBL, NBL and Olympics! Please contact your Association Advisor for more information. |

Becoming a Scoretable OfficialBeing a Scoretable Official is a great way to be involved in basketball outside of coaching, playing and refereeing while learning and appreciating more about the game of basketball. A Scoretable officials work in partnership with referees to officiate the match, and to communicate the progress of the game. It’s fun, you meet lots of people with similar interests and is an opportunity to earn money. Some events/games require scorers to be involved voluntarily however this comes with the best seat in the stadium sitting courtside. If you are interested in becoming a scoretable official, please complete the Expression of Interest form below, so we can best determine the association(s) most relevant to you. |

Becoming a StatisticianBeing a Statistician is a great way to be involved in basketball outside of coaching, playing and refereeing while learning and appreciating more about the game of basketball. It’s not a time-consuming position as there are no duties to perform outside the actual game and you do not need to provide any equipment.
