Our Championship Men get their season underway this weekend and it's safe to say we are pumped for it! There have been huge off-season moves made by our Champ Men teams. Below we've highlighted all the biggest moves ahead of what is sure to be an epic season.
Bellarine Storm
Kavione Green
Kavione Green departed Wyndham after 2 years, now heading down the coast to Bellarine for the 2024 season. Green was a part of the 2022 Wyndham Championship finishing the season averaging just over 16ppg and 9.7rpg. In 2023, Green was awarded Championship Men Defensive Player of the Year award.
Liam McInerney
Liam has come from an extensive career at NBL1 South’s Geelong United as a physical and very capable Big Man. Playing over 200 games for Geelong United, former captain Liam will bring extensive experience through his State and National opportunities, suiting up in the green and gold back in 2006 for the Oceania Youth Championships.
Blackburn Vikings
James Legan
James Legan has departed NBL1 Central and signed with the Viking for 2024 after an extensive professional career, most recently with the Eastern Mavericks. Legan averaged 23ppg shooting over 40% from the field in 2023. With numerous 30-point games in NBL1 Central, the combo guard joins the Vikings with a tough skill set.
Camberwell Dragons
Luke Shelley
After one year in NBL1 South with the Ringwood Hawks in 2023, Shelley has put on the Dragons uniform again. Shelley averaged over 22 minutes in the 2023 NBL1 South season with 7ppg. A former Dragon, Shelley averaged 21ppg back in 2022 shooting 33% from 3pt.
Max Barkeley
Barkeley’s departure from Sunbury has been confirmed following his signing with the Dragons for 2024. The former Jet helped get his team to the 2022 Championship series falling short to Wyndham. Known as one of the better shooters in the league, Barkeley returns to Camberwell after his short stint from 2019 to 2021.
Chris Elder
Departing Hume City after just 2 years Chris Elder has signed with the Camberwell Dragons for 2024. The starting point guard for Hume City in their 2023 Championship season, Elder finished the year as the second-highest scorer for the Broncos with 15.9 ppg.
Hume City Broncos
Scott Stone
The 2023 All-Star 5 and leading scorer Scott Stone has parted ways with Western Port to sign with Hume City. Averaging 28.9ppg in Championship Men for 2023, Stone will bring a bag of scoring options to the Broncos.
Carlo Camp
Carlo Camp departed the NBL1 South Keilor Thunder signing with Hume City for 2024. Camp returns to Big V after 2 seasons with the Thunder NBL1 South squad. In 2021 Camp averaged 16ppg, 4.5rpg and 5.2apg for the Thunder VYCM as their fierce starting point guard.
Malik McKinney
From Seton Hall, McKinney joins Hume City as one of the new imports for 2024! A college career with Seton Hall and West Liberty University Athletics, McKinney averaged 11ppg & 2.4apg scoring 16 points in his victory at the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
Keysborough Cougars
Derrick Mcdonald
Last playing back in 2022 for RMIT, Derrick brings an experienced and high IQ basketball mind. Mcdonald spent some time in the NBL for the Melbourne Tigers and Sydney Kings before playing in NBL1 and Big V for the Tigers, Nunawading, RMIT, Warrnambool and more.
Puoch Puoc
Clearing from Division 1 Men’s RMIT, Puoch brings rim protection to the Cougars standing over 200cm tall. A lengthy big man with experience around the Big V, Puoc comes into this Cougars outfit ready to be impactful both on and off the court.
Nick Carlson
Nick has signed with the Cougars for the 2024 season coming from New Mexico. Joining the Cougars as a two-way athletic wing, Carlson brings about some serious excitement as to how impactful he will be in Big V.
McKinnon Cougars
Shaquille Maharaj
Shaquille Maharaj signed with the Cougars after 2 seasons with the Albury Wodonga Bandits in NBL1 East averaging 11.3ppg and 6rpg. Returning from China’s 3x3 league in Hong Kong, Shaquille brings high energy and effort on both sides of the floor as a very exciting prospect for the Cougars.
Adam Anderson
Adam spent his first Big V season with the Altona Gators before signing with the Cougars in the upcoming 2024 season. The high-flying and serious sharpshooter, Anderson joins the Cougars after averaging 25ppg shooting 37% from the land of plenty, looking to generate some more highlights in the new uniform.
Melbourne University
Lukas Kafritsas
Kafritsas joins Melbourne University after an extended period with the Diamond Valley Eagles in NBL1 South. The lefty combo guard brings physicality and high IQ to the backcourt, able to guard multiple positions, Kaf joins the roster as a guy who can disrupt and shift to anywhere on the court.
Pakenham Warriors
Malik Seldon
Malik from Cincinnati Ohio comes to Australia for the first time after spending his 2023 in Mexico. The 6”8 Forward most recently played for the Culiacan Knights in Mexico, the stretch forward with some crafty handles had some serious highlights in his past season. Will we see more in a Warriors uniform?
Shepparton Gators
Jayden Coke
Shepparton have signed the 24-year-old Canadian Jayden Coke for the 2024 season. The elite on-ball defender standing at 6”6, Coke is a forceful 2-way player known for his high energy and hustle plays very suiting to Gators ball.
Devin Thomas
The Gators second import from America, Devin Thomas is a 6”7 Forward from Indiana. Thomas adds some real length and activity to the frontcourt with the capability of sliding to the 5. With the ability to stretch the floor and drain it from deep, Thomas looks to be another great asset for Shepparton.
Sunbury Jets
Joel Coffey
The Jets have gone big, signing a 7-footer from New Zealand, Joel Coffey for 2024. Coffey has come from Florida’s Webber University in the 2019-2020 season. Playing above the rim is his game with the ability to stretch the floor and make shots from the perimeter.
Joshua Yorke-Fraser
The Canadian Born, Yorke Fraser joins the Jets backcourt for 2024. Yorke-Fraser is a dynamic point guard recently playing in the Drew League averaging 15ppg, 5apg and 3spg. With a deep skill set, Yorke-Fraser will be looking to impact the league with his court vision and crafty handles.
Western Port Steelers
Elijah Davy
Elijah parted ways with Chelsea and has signed with the Steelers for 2024. Averaging over 25ppg for the Gulls in 2023, Davy brings experience and poise at guard slot after a very respectful 2023 season. New to Championship Men, Davy is ready to set the tone.
Anthony Kimble
Anthony Kimble has recently signed with the Steelers after a year with the Camberwell Dragons. Kimble has spent 2 years in Championship with McKinnon and Camberwell, averaging 21ppg and 8rpg in the 2023 season. With a wealth of experience in the league, Kimble will look to get into the finals this year with his new group.
Wyndham
Troyce Manassa
Troyce Manassa has parted ways with Hume City and signed with Wyndham for the 2024 season. The 2023 All Star 5 athlete Manassa has always been an issue for every opposition and this year will be no different. Averaging over 20ppg and shooting the ball at 33% from 3pt, Manassa will look to get Wyndham back to the finals again in 2024.
Myles Thomas
Myles Thomas has made his way to Australia signing with Wyndham for the 2024 season. Thomas has most recently spent some time in Romania after spending 4 years at Tuskegee University. Thomas as also recently become a champion in Malta bringing over a winning mentality.
