Hoops is for everyone! Across Victoria, many associations run ‘Hoops for Wheelies!’ (wheelchair basketball) programs that offer participation, competition, and event opportunities. These programs support fun, fitness, and inclusion while connecting into pathways that develop players, coaches, officials, administrators, and volunteers in the sport. Opportunities are available for all people to engage with this part of our sport particularly those with:
(e.g. chronic conditions that prevent people from participating in their chosen sport). This page serves as a guide for discovering available wheelchair basketball opportunities across Victoria. With programs to suit all abilities, whether you are new to wheelchair basketball or have previous experience, we are here to assist you with finding the right fit for you. If you are uncertain about where to start and which opportunity is right for you, please fill out the New Participant Contact Form below and a member of our team will contact you to discuss which opportunities will be best tailored to your needs. |

State Team: National Junior Wheelchair ChampionshipsThe National Junior Wheelchair Championships, formerly known as the Kevin Coombs Cup, is the Australian Junior Championship for wheelchair basketball. State teams representing Basketball Victoria are selected to compete at the annual National Junior Championships. While the event has a new name, teams still compete for the historic Kevin Coombs Cup trophy. These championships present the only opportunity for junior wheelchair basketballers to represent their state in a national championship. The age groups for the National Junior Wheelchair Championships are based on international junior wheelchair basketball age groups: Under-23 for males and Under-25 for females. |
