Victoria, Melbourne - At Basketball Victoria, our values aren’t just words on a page, they’re the foundation for how we operate, connect, and grow as a community. They reflect who we are, how we work together, and the way we continue to move our sport forward.
Our values were developed over 10 years ago. Since then, we’ve seen an evolution in our sport, our member base and our operating environment – to ensure that we reflect that, we knew it was time to review and refresh our organisation’s values. Following an extensive co-design process, we are delighted to share our new set of values for Basketball Victoria.
Our four new values – Lead the Play, Every Day is Game Day, We Take the Court Together, and We Keep the Game Moving Forward - capture the spirit of basketball and the people who make it great.
LEAD THE PLAY
We communicate with clarity and act with courage. We build a culture of leadership through our actions, where every person’s development and every decision shapes our collective success.
Leadership isn’t about titles, it's about taking initiative, setting the example, and inspiring others to step up. Whether it’s on the court, in our offices, or in our associations, we lead with purpose and integrity.
EVERY DAY IS GAME DAY
We consistently deliver high-quality work with pride, care, and integrity. We set ambitious goals and reach for new heights; our mindset is always towards continued growth.
This value reminds us to bring passion and preparation to everything we do. No matter the challenge, we show up ready to perform, improve, and contribute to something bigger than ourselves.

We ensure our work reflects the people and communities we serve by working collaboratively, welcoming input early, and sharing ideas openly. By actively listening and embracing diverse perspectives, together, we build stronger outcomes for everyone.
Basketball is a team sport - and so is everything we do at Basketball Victoria. Our strength lies in unity, respect, and inclusivity, ensuring everyone feels valued and supported.

Our new values are underpinned by a set of clearly codified behavioural expectations. They tell our staff, volunteers, associations, and partners what we can expect from each other. These values belong to all of us - guiding how we communicate, collaborate, and contribute across every level of the game.
They help us create a culture where people feel empowered to lead, supported by their teammates, motivated to give their best, and committed to progress.
Our values are important to all of our community because they serve as a compass, helping us make consistent, purpose-driven decisions that reflect our commitment to integrity, teamwork, and excellence.
By keeping these values at the forefront of everything we do, we’re strengthening Basketball Victoria’s connection to our members and our wider community. They remind us that every action we take - from grassroots to elite competition - should reflect the spirit of the game we love.
