Last week several of our associations asked their young participants to invite a grandparent along to enjoy an afternoon of Walking Basketball and a special afternoon tea.
The special events were designed to raise awareness of the program and to encourage our older community members to have a go at basketballe in a safe and friendly enviroment.
In its second year, Bring your Grandparents week celebrates a range of age groups in our community and to encourage them to either get back on the court and rediscover their competitive spirit or to experience how much fun basketball is!
Basketball Victoria Diversity and Inclusion Officer Kathy Perry wanted to encourage older Victorians to discover the benefits of the game, has loved all of the feedback from the events, “It’s a great way of creating a safe space for generations to enjoy and discover basketball together” Perry said.
Each participating association celebrate Walking Basketball just a little bit differently- but it all ends with a good laugh, a cup of tea and a chat at the end of the day.
If you are interested in discovering the benefits of Walking Basketball, find out where your closest walking basketball program is held. Come down for a game and stay for a cup of tea afterwards.
