NBL1 South will celebrate the NBL1 First Nations Round as part of NAIDOC Week this weekend, recognising the important role the competition’s players, staff and volunteers play in the national basketball landscape.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! aimed to inspire action and reflects the great opportunity we have as a nation to advance equality for First Nations people.
Basketball Victoria and NBL1 South are committed to reconciliation and the ongoing inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into basketball through associations and environments that are welcoming and culturally sensitive.
This week we aim to celebrate the incredible people, programs and events across our state that advance opportunities for all First Nations players, coaches and staff in Victoria. Our Associations throughout NBL1 South and around the country in the other conferences will wear jerseys designed by First Nations artists while courts will pay homage to First Nations communities by having elders perform a Welcome to Country before the commencement of games.
