Basketball Victoria would like to welcome Lauren Bennett to the organisation as our High Performance Head Coach - Metropolitan Women (parental leave cover)!
Lauren has joined Basketball Victoria in this role with Jenni Screen set to go on parental leave later this month.
She recently commenced in her role over the weekend, working at the Metropolitan SDP Introduction Camps, and is excited to go full-circle from elite player to elite coach within the Victorian High Performance system.
“Elite basketball has always been a passion of mine and I’m excited to work with athletes who have been given this amazing opportunity to participate in Basketball Victoria’s High Performance Program,” Bennett said. “I have had a connection with Basketball Victoria since 1995, playing for Victoria Country at the Australian Junior Championships, and to now go from a High Performance player to High Performance Coach and give back to the sport is exciting.
“I look forward to helping shape the next generation of Victorian players to help support and guide athletes and families to maximise their opportunities that lie ahead.”
General Manager – High Performance and Pathway Grant Wallace said Lauren was a fantastic addition to the High Performance team.
“On behalf of Basketball Victoria we’d like to welcome Lauren to the High Performance team and we wish her the best of luck in our organisation,” Wallace said. “Her history in our game, both as a player and a coach, has been impressive and we’re looking forward to seeing her take this program forward over the next 12 months as we start to regroup and rebuild following another COVID-affected year in 2021.
“The Metro Women’s program has been in wonderful hands with Jenni honing and developing it over the last three years.”
Lauren is one of four High Performance Head Coaches alongside Darren Best (Victoria Metropolitan Men), Zoe Carr (Victoria Country Women) and Nathan Cooper-Brown (Victoria Country Men).
