Victoria, Melbourne - Basketball Victoria (BV) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dom Linossier as the organisation’s new General Manager - Pathways, bringing with him extensive experience across both the sporting and education sectors.
Dom has held leadership positions in schools and on the sidelines, most recently serving as Head of Middle School at Peninsula Grammar, while also coaching at NBL1 level, national junior teams, and across the VJBL. He has also led Victoria Metro’s Under-16 Men’s program across five campaigns as Head Coach, guiding and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
For Dom, this new chapter is an opportunity to give back to a sport that has shaped his life.
“The chance to serve the next generation of Victorian athletes, referees and coaches in this way is what excites me most,” Linossier said. “Basketball has given me so many wonderful opportunities, and I’m motivated to help others access and embrace those same experiences.”
A leader shaped by sport and education
Dom credits his leadership approach to lessons learned in both classrooms and on the court.
“I consider myself fortunate to have led in different contexts, where the leaders I’ve worked with and communities I’ve served allowed me to fail and learn alongside them,” he reflected. “A mentor once told me that, as leaders, our first responsibility is to serve – and that is something I hold as a guiding light.”
With his background across multiple levels of the game, Dom understands the value of a strong, inclusive pathway for all participants.
“If there’s one truth about pathways, it’s that they are rarely linear,” he explained. “A world-class pathway is inclusive, accessible, innovative, and reflective of collective expertise. It should provide skill development, opportunities to apply and test those skills, challenges that promote growth, and an understanding of each participant’s motivation.”
Dom emphasised the importance of collaboration with clubs, associations, and schools to ensure pathways remain meaningful and effective.
“Working collaboratively is the only avenue for successful pathways. Athletes, referees and coaches are the product of the investment of so many people, and our role is to place participants at the centre of decision-making.”
While Dom has been mentored by respected figures such as Graham Longstaff, Scott Christiansen and Tony Smyth, he says the greatest influences have been the athletes themselves.
“One of my fondest memories is coaching an Under-10 Girls domestic team, where two players made it their mission to make me laugh every time they sat on the bench together. That simple joy of our great game can’t be lost in anything we do.”
Looking ahead, Dom is motivated by basketball’s constant evolution.
“Our game continues to change, and I love that it’s never stagnant. It’s truly everybody’s game, and I can’t wait to work alongside the Pathways team, BV staff, and the broader community to keep pushing forward.”
