Exciting young guard, Luke Fennell has been selected for a scholarship to the NBA Global Academy, which is based out of the Basketball Centre of Excellence at the AIS in Canberra.
The talented guard who represents the Knox Basketball Association, has been a part of Basketball Victoria’s SDP program, where he represented Victoria in the 2022 Under 18 Championships held in Ballarat earlier this year.
The NBA Global Academy has seen several Victorian stars attend including recent NBA draft lottery picks Dyson Daniels and Josh Giddey, before they became the NBA stars they are today. The Academy works collaboratively with the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence and provides athletes with development in all facets of basketball with the idea to progress into international and NBA athletes of the future.
In announcing the scholarship, NBA Global Technical Director Marty Clarke said he was excited to have the young playmaker join the program, "Luke has been identified as a player of the future and we look forward him to joining the NBA Global Academy family in January.”
Luke has been a consistent member of the Basketball Victoria High Performance pathway, through development tournaments, State Development Program, State Teams and most recently the National Performance Program.
Darren Best, Basketball Victoria’s Head Coach for High Performance Men (Metro) said that Fennell deserved the prestigious spot at the NBA Global Academy and knows he will work hard to get the best out of himself in Canberra.
“Throughout his time in our program Luke has been a leader, tireless worker and we are thrilled that he will be going into that environment well prepared.”
Fennell will join the NBA Global in mid-January before attending the Basketball Australia National Performance Camp at the AIS January 23-25.
