Our Championship Women's division is raring to go this weekend for Round 1 of #BigV24. It's been a big off-season for our Championship Women with so many league-shaking moves made. Read on for all the latest moves below:
Bellarine Storm
Courtney Strait
Courtney Strait leaves the Craigieburn Eagles to sign with the Bellarine Storm for 2024. After a strong 2023 season taking Strait into the All-star 5 and leading scorer for the Eagles, Strait will look to continue her double-double average into the Championship level.
Bridgette Rettstatt
Bellarine’s import from the UK, Bridgette Rettstatt has signed for the 2024 season. This will be Bridgette’s first look at Australian basketball recently coming from Greece. The 6'2 forward also spent time at Liberty College, the team’s leading scorer in the 2020-21 season.
Bulleen
Charlotte Vincent-Lord
After playing for Sandringham in the 2023 NBL1 South season, Charlotte has been cleared to go to the Boomers for the 2024 season. Charlotte adds experience to the reigning champions with a dynamic skill set. Already helping the Boomer juniors, Charlotte fits very well into the culture of this Boomers outfit.
Sarae Beveridge
Sarae has recently been cleared from the McKinnon Cougars to sign with the Boomers for the 2024 season. Sarae was a reliable off-the-bench player for the Cougars, as a role player impacting the game with her ability to stretch the floor and rain 3s shooting 45% for the season.
Camberwell Dragons
Anna Burrows
NBL1 South’s Anna Burrows has departed the Eltham Wildcats and signed with the Dragons for the 2024 season. Anna played 21 games in the 2023 NBL1 season averaging over 11 minutes. Burrows brings athleticism and depth to this Dragons unit, along with the NBL1 experience and basketball IQ.
Georgia Fagan
After spending time in NBL1 Central and South, Fagan has made the move to Big V signing with the Dragons. Fagan spent her 2022 year in NBL1 Central for Woodville Warriors, then signed with Hobart Chargers in 2023. Playing 14 games for the Chargers, Fagan‘s ability to stretch the floor and play a composed point guard role will positively influence this Dragon’s unit.
Hume City Broncos
Taylor Edwards
Edwards recently signed with the Broncos for 2024, recently coming over from Turkey. USA-born, Edwards spent her year college career at Old Dominion University where in her Senior year she averaged 11.8ppg, 5.8rpg and 3.3apg scoring double figures in 21 of her 30 performances. As one of the highest assist leaders in the league, Edwards looks to make an immediate impact.
Adrienne Darden
The talented 6'5 Centre from the US, Adrienne Darden has signed with the Broncos for the 2024 season. After some college stints with the University of Hawaii and Coppin State University, Darden brings some serious size to the Championship Women’s division. Darden’s ability to protect the rim and stretch the floor makes her a very exciting talent to enter the league.
McKinnon Cougars
Emily Maltezos
After securing a championship with the Bulleen Boomers in 2023, Emily has found a new home with the Cougars. As the third-highest scorer for the Boomers in 2023 with 10ppg, shooting over 35% from 3pt, Maltezos brings a dynamic skill set to the backcourt of this Cougar’s unit. A high-energy athlete - watch for Maltezos to make an impact early.
A’Lexxus Davis
The 6'2 Forward from the United States, A’Lexxus Davis has signed with the Cougars for the 2024 season. Davis completed her college career at the University of South Carolina having recently spent time in Albania with Teuta where in her 6 games averaged 15ppg, 14rpg, 2.8spg and 1.7bpg. Davis has also played professionally in Germany and Ireland.
Pakenham
Erica Meyer
Making her way from the United States, Erica Meyer recently signed with the Warriors for the 2024 season. Meyer spent 2023 in Adelaide with the Rockets averaging 8ppg, and shooting 47% from the field. Meyer has also spent time abroad in Latvia with Daugavpils University in the 2022 season averaging close to a double-double.
Briahna Whatman
Recently parting ways with the Dandenong Rangers, Briahna has now signed with the Warriors for 2024. Briahna played her 2023 season with Kilsyth Cobras NBL1 South where she averaged 9ppg, 4rpg and 4apg in her 13 games. Whatman’s NBL1 experience will be big for this Warriors unit.
Sherbrooke
Kiara Phillips
A huge addition for Sherbrooke with Kiara Phillips moving to the Suns from the Warwick Senators NBL1 West. The athletic wing joins the Suns after two impressive years in NBL1 West. With some big 15+ games and game winners, Phillips brings a lot of excitement for Championship Women.
Sunbury
Jess Bygate
After 2 years in NBL1 East, Jess Bygate has moved down south to sign with the Jets for Big V 2024.
Jess spent her 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Norths Bears in NBL1 East averaging 9ppg & 7rpg in her 2023 season. Jess has also represented New Zealand and won a bronze medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and played at the FIBA Asia Cup in 2017.
Warrnambool
Julia Nielacna
Joining the Mermaids in the 2024 Big V season is Julia Nielacna from Poland. Most recently completing her college career at Cal Poly in California, Nielacna stands at 185cm with the ability to stretch the floor, completing the 2023 season as one of the best 3-point shooters in her team. A powerful post-player with versatility will prove very useful for the Mermaids.
Wyndham
Julie Brosseau
Julia Brosseau joins Wyndham Basketball for 2024 coming over from her home town in Canada. Julie spent her last 2 years of college at Kansas before taking her talents to Luxembourg where she averaged 21ppg, shooting 40% from the land of plenty. First time on Australian soil, Julie has already expressed excitement about connecting with teammates and a new country.
