“Basketball is not just a game; it’s a community,” said David Huxtable, General Manager of Members, Participation, and Growth at Basketball Victoria. “The latest Ausplay data confirms what we’ve known all along—that basketball unites people and provides them with the opportunity to develop skills, friendships, and a love for the sport. We’re excited to continue this growth and expand our reach to even more participants.”
As part of our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, Basketball Victoria is implementing various initiatives aimed at increasing participation among underrepresented groups, including women and girls and individuals with disabilities. Our focus on community development ensures that everyone can experience basketball.
“The greatest impediment to further growth is lack of facilities” David said. “Our challenge is to continue to develop infrastructure to support the sport and provide safe and compliant places to play.”
Basketball Victoria is currently developing its 2025 - 2028 Strategic Plan and facility development is still the highest priority, underpinning all others.
To celebrate this achievement and promote further participation, Basketball Victoria invites individuals, families, and communities to join in on the excitement. We encourage everyone to get involved—whether by playing, coaching, or volunteering—because together, we can continue to grow the sport we love.
