BASKETBALL Victoria’s partnership with Helping Hoops was celebrated on Wednesday as we presented a $21,993 cheque to the Melbourne-based basketball charity.
Following an incredible performance by Victorian basketball community at the Helping Hoops Charity Shootout, held earlier this year at Elevate 24/7 Basketball Sunshine and Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, Basketball Victoria pledged to make a $1 contribution to the charity for each free throw made.
Basketball Victoria’s CEO Nick Honey, General Manager - Communications, Marketing & Digital Matt McIntosh and Commercial and Partnerships Manager Scott Davis presented Helping Hoops Executive Director Clinton Meehan with a cheque for $21,993 at Helping Hoops Dandenong this afternoon.
“Helping Hoops is an incredible charity that unites the passion for basketball with the positive community outcomes that come from organised sport,” Honey said. “We’re thrilled to see Helping Hoops continue to grow and create further opportunities for Melbourne’s ever-growing basketball community and we’re proud to support them.
“Basketball Victoria sees first-hand the positive outcomes created across Melbourne by Clinton and the Helping Hoops team as they support and encourage the city’s underprivileged, all-abilities and migrant communities.
“We’re excited to continue to work alongside an organisation that every day makes such an extraordinary difference to the lives of disadvantaged Melburnians.
“On behalf of Basketball Victoria, I’d like to congratulate the Helping Hoops team and look towards next year’s Charity Shootout and another impressive year across Helping Hoops’ programs.”
Helping Hoops Executive Director Clinton Meehan said the contribution from Basketball Victoria will continue to support Helping Hoops in providing opportunities across multiple communities throughout Melbourne.
“Breaking down barriers, and giving everyone equal access to this great game we all love, is why Helping Hoops exists,” Meehan said. “Support from Basketball Victoria across the last eight years has meant we are able to deliver a number of free programs to thousands of children and young people across Melbourne.
“Our gratitude goes out to Basketball Victoria for their continued support.”
Helping Hoops is an independent charity running free basketball programs for over 1000 underprivileged children. Over 650 sessions per year benefit children and young people of all abilities aged 7 to 21.
As a charity, Helping Hoops uses basketball as a means to instil values that benefit the participants outside of sport as well as enhancing on-court skills with expert weekly coaching.
