Basketball Victoria is excited to announce tryouts for the Regional State Development Program (SDP) women’s teams will take place next month in October. Female athletes from across regional Victoria looking to elevate their basketball skills and work towards Vic Country representation, national team selection, and even international competition are encouraged to register for these highly anticipated tryout events.
The SDP is a nationally recognised, long-term athlete development program designed to provide young basketball players with a comprehensive and supportive learning environment to further their basketball career. This program offers athletes the tools they need to transform their potential into performance, with many program alumni going on to achieve national and international success. A standout example, Jade Melbourne recently helped the Opals win bronze at the Paris Olympics and was named Rising Star of the tournament.
Zoe Carr, High Performance Head Coach Country Women, Basketball Victoria, is deeply committed to nurturing talent in regional Victoria. She believes that the SDP is a crucial stepping stone for young athletes. "The State Development Program is a contributing factor of basketball development in Victoria, playing a key role in the growth of junior athletes. It’s the entry point into High Performance and equips athletes with the skills needed for the next phase of their basketball careers," Carr said.
The Phase One Regional SDP tryouts for the upcoming year will take place at Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat on the following dates:
- U16 Women (athletes born 2010): Monday, September 30th, 9am-4pm
- U18 Women (athletes born 2008/09): Tuesday, October 1st, 9am-4pm
Athletes interested in participating are encouraged to register today!
