Basketball Victoria statement
Monday 8 February 2021
There is good news regarding the COVID contact tracing situation regarding two individuals from Wallan Basketball Association and the associated community as previously advised on Friday 5 February.
Following an interview conducted on the evening of Friday 5 February, all associated individuals within the Wallan Basketball community have been cleared to participate as advised from the Department of Health. However, the two individuals are still required to stay in self-isolation and not participate in any basketball-related activities until Tuesday 16 February 2021 as per Department of Health protocols.
The pair were present at a Tier 1 exposure site (Bunnings Springvale) on Monday 1 February but have returned negative test results and have assisted the Victorian Government with contact tracing efforts.
The following updates regarding the VJBL and CBL for the upcoming weekend have been made:
- The Wallan 1 Under-18 Boys team can recommence its scheduled VJBL season dates.
We thank the team for their understanding and willingness to support Basketball Victoria in maintaining public health and safety last week.
- The CBL Round 6 game between Wallan and Myrtleford Men will now go ahead as previously scheduled for Saturday 13 February at RB Robson Indoor Stadium.
Both Wallan Basketball Association and Basketball Victoria took a cautious approach to comply with Victorian public health standards and preserve the COVID-Safe environment we have worked hard to create and maintain within the Victorian basketball community.
RB Robson Indoor Stadium (Wallan) is not a current risk to the public and can be visited and utilised in line with Basketball current COVID-Safe restrictions.
Basketball Victoria would like to thank the players involved, Gary O’Brien and the Wallan Basketball Association community for their professional cooperation, preparation and communication during this time.
Basketball Victoria statement
Friday 5 February 2021
Once the individuals were made aware at 10.30pm on Wednesday 3 February of the potential exposure event, they immediately went into self-isolation, undertook COVID-19 tests on Thursday and have been fully compliant in assisting the Department of Health in contact tracing efforts. Their COVID-19 tests have returned negative results today (Friday) and the pair are awaiting an interview with the Department of Health.
As a result of the two individuals (players) practice schedule earlier in the week at Wallan Basketball Association (RB Robson Indoor Stadium, 48 Bentinck St, Wallan) the decision has been made to take a cautious approach for safety and well-being of potential exposed contacts.
Wallan Basketball Association would like to thank its basketball community for their support as well as the players involved for their caution and understanding in line with Victorian health guidelines throughout this time.
Due to the above circumstances, the following changes have been made to scheduled CBL and VJBL fixtures as per below:
- The VJBL game between Wallan 1 and Bulleen 3 Under-18 Boys scheduled for today (Friday 5 February) at Mill Park Basketball Stadium at 9.40pm has been cancelled. The outcome of this game will not impact the final result of VJBL grading so neither team will be adversely affected.
- The CBL Round 5 game between Seymour and Wallan Men on Saturday 6 February has been postponed. The Women’s game between these teams is still scheduled for this weekend. Alternate arrangements regarding a potential Men’s re-scheduled game are being investigated.
- The CBL Round 6 game between Wallan and Myrtleford Men is currently suspended while we await further advice from the Department of Health.
While the risk of infection does appear to be minimal, both Wallan Basketball Association and Basketball Victoria believe that taking this cautious approach is the best decision to comply with current Victorian public health standards.
RB Robson Indoor Stadium (Wallan) is not a current risk to the public and can be visited and utilised in line with current COVID-Safe restrictions.
Basketball Victoria would like to thank the players involved, Gary O’Brien and the Wallan Basketball Association community for their professional cooperation, preparation and communication during this time.
We will make further updates regarding this situation as soon as available.
