With three home games to start the season, from 8 October, the Spirit will look to take advantage of the Bendigo home crowd before heading down to Melbourne to face the Boomers in Round 4.
Bendigo Spirit general manager Adam Tarr was thrilled to get the season set in stone and encouraged the entire country basketball community to get down and support the Spirit this season.
“With three games at home at the Bendigo Stadium to commence the season we are certainly in a position to get our season off to a strong start,” Tarr said.
Spirit has had a productive offseason signing new players Blake Dietrick, Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe, Nadeen Payne and Ashleigh Karaitiana. The four recruits bring with them a new dynamic to the side and will each have an opportunity to shine at home early in the season at the Bendigo Stadium.
“It will be exciting to introduce our new recruits to the Spirit sponsors, members and fans from the first tip off and I am sure all four will enjoy playing in front of such passionate supporters week-in, week-out,” Tarr said.
Bendigo will feature in six of the 10 scheduled Victorian derbies for the 2016/2017 season.
Spirit will play host to Dandenong in Round 2 and Round 9 as well as playing cross-state rival Melbourne at home in Round 16.
“We will host a home game against the Melbourne Boomers over the January Australia Day long weekend on Saturday January 28th at 7.30pm which coincides with the Bendigo Basketball Association junior classic tournament,” Tarr said.
Spirt last played Melbourne in Round 13 of the 2015/2016 season where they secured an important victory winning 81-74 and there is no doubt Bendigo will want to keep that winning streak going throughout the coming season.
Bendigo will host twelve home games in the upcoming 19-round WNBL season.
With an improved line-up and a strong draw, Bendigo will look to make an impact on the competition this season and will be looking to their enviable fan base for support.
Bendigo fans are encouraged show their support and join the Spirit family with a membership for the 2016/2017 season.
“The release of our fixture is a great time for our fans to become a Spirit member by purchasing a membership,” Tarr said.
