Jaylen Brown, Mitch Bond and Tomas Klein will represent Australia at the IWBF U23 World Championship!
The three Victorian Kevin Coombs Cup team members – who were part of our bronze medal victory at the 2022 Kevin Coombs Cup in Ballarat – are part of the Australian Under-23 Spinners team set to head off to the World Championships in September.
The trio have been on the radar of Australian selection in recent years and their stellar achievements at nationals – including an incredible quadruple-double from Jaylen Brown in the bronze medal game – helped earn them a place in the side.
The 12-man squad also features Lachlin Dalton, who is coming off the back of a gold medal victory in the Men’s Wheelchair 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month.
The team will face some tough opposition, but Head Coach Bradley Ness says the squad is up for the challenge.
“Israel, Turkey, Spain and Germany all have very good teams with a number of the athletes playing professionally in Europe - we are well prepared to face all challenges as we have been training together for the last four years,” Ness said. “Our game plan is designed to apply pressure on the opposition for 40 minutes and together with the Aussie spirit of never say die, we are defiantly looking to be playing in the podium rounds.“
Ness will be joined by Assistant Coaches, Joshua Alison and Thomas Kyle.
The IWBF U23 Men’s World Championship will take place from 7-16 September in Phuket, Thailand.
