Basketball Victoria would like to announce Scott Christiansen has been newly appointed as our Victoria Metropolitan Under-16 Men’s Head Coach.
Due to previously announced head coach David Peters having to step away from state duties due to NBL1 South commitments, Scott Christiansen has been elevated to take the reins of the Vic Metro team ahead of next year’s championships in Perth, Western Australia.
Scott has head coaching experience as a state team head coach, highlighted by coaching the Victorian 2009 team, featuring Matthew Dellavedova, to gold at the Australian Under-20 Junior Championships in Townsville.
“I am extremely honoured to have been given the opportunity to coach the Vic Metro Under 16 boys in 2022 as there are high expectations for Victoria Metro teams when we go to Australian Junior Championships,” Christiansen said. “Once I got the call to be a Vic Metro Head coach again, the competitive gears kick in on how we are going to put together and prepare a strong talented team that can compete for a national championship.
“The restrictions on playing the game over the past two years I feel will only make the group more determined and work harder to strive for the ultimate goal in Perth.”
Basketball Victoria General Manager – High Performance and Pathway Grant Wallace said the addition of Scott to the head coaching ranks showcased how many exceptional coaches there were in the Victorian basketball community.
“We’re fortunate to have a number of incredible coaches in the Victorian system and Scott Christiansen is one of the best,” Wallace said. “He has been part of Australian Junior Championships teams for a number of years and is always willing to do whatever role is asked of him.
“We’re excited to see him take charge of the Vic Metro Under-16 Men’s team and help guide the team in its return to the national arena next year.”
The last time the team was able to attend a national championship in 2019 they won a thrilling grand final against Victoria Country in Darwin.
Brent Andrews has been added to the Victoria Metropolitan Under-16 Men’s team as an assistant coach.
