Frankston and District Basketball Association (FDBA) CEO, Wayne Holdsworth was ecstatic about the announcement which is a much-needed investment for the growth of the game in the region.
“This announcement is history making. To complement the $15 million committed by the Frankston City Council and the $15 million committed by the Federal Government, today’s announcement completes the funding required to redevelop the basketball stadium and to build additional courts.
We are extremely grateful to State Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke who has tirelessly advocated for the redevelopment of the basketball stadium for years. It is a wonderful endorsement for the FDBA which has worked hard to build the participation growth rate which is now the highest in the country.
“Kids have bounced back into basketball in record numbers and we’re exceeding capacity when it comes to scheduling competitions and game days. We could fill another 6 courts now” Holdsworth said.
Basketball Victoria CEO Nick Honey was excited to see FDBA secure the additional funding from the Victorian State Government.
“The Frankston and District Basketball Association is one of Victoria’s largest associations, when you’re a popular and accessible sports for all ages, it’s important to have modern infrastructure to support growth, for health and well-being outcomes, particularly in the City of Frankston and surrounding areas.
We look forward to the detailed planning of the redevelopment, which will help support the local community well into the future.”
