The conclusion of the 3XCup Secondary Championship has showcased not only the talent within Victoria's Secondary Schools, but demonstrated the importance of FIBA 3x3 as a new pathway opportunity within basketball.
Amy Vine, League Administrator said:
”2024 has been an exciting year for 3x3 in the Secondary Schools space. After a successful introduction in 2023, we had over 360 teams compete across our qualifying days, with 12 teams per division earning the chance to compete for the state titles.”
“We worked hard to create a 3x3 season this year for schools, running the events throughout March/April to provide schools the opportunity to focus solely on 3x3 if they chose, before the 5x5 competitions start in May.“
This year's competition featured qualifying rounds across the state, culminating in State Championships held across three days which saw schools compete in age categories of under 15, under 17, and under 20 at the State Basketball Centre. Each category was split into two divisions for both boys and girls, providing a broad platform for showcasing young athletic talent.
Amy continued with:
“This years’ championships were highly competitive, showcasing the skills of players but also the development in the understanding of 3x3; the tactics, style and skills required to be successful in this face paced, high intensity format."
"Congratulations to all the division champions and I look forward to seeing 3XCup continue to grow in 2025. For schools that missed out in 2024, we look forward to sharing some introductory opportunities later in the year.”
