Yet again there was a tonne of grand performances across the Big V in round four, making it a tough decision when trying to find the best dozen for this week’s Blue Carpet. Whether you agree with the final dozen or not, there’s no denying that this week’s top picks all delivered the goods.
David Buchberger (Eltham SCM – 29pts, 6rbs, 9ass, 3stl, 3 treys)
Eltham’s new stud has been in ripping form over his two games, averaging 23.5pts. If he can keep scoring big it will take some pressure of Scott Cuffe and hopefully lead the Wildcats to more wins.
Mike Rose (Bulleen SCM – 26pts, 6ast, 3stl, 3 treys)
Rose wasted no time fitting back into Melbourne and gave all of his new fans at Bulleen plenty to cheer about with a grand first-up performance. Did we mention the Boomers still have Adrien Sturt to come?
Sedale Threatt Jnr (Waverley SCM – 25pts @ 77%, 8rbs, 14ast)
Man, can this guy seriously play! Last week we were boasting about his sharpshooting, which was good again in round 4, but check out those assists!
Hayley Munro (Eltham SCW – 24pts, 15rbs, 5ast and 17pts, 16rbs, 3ast, 3stl, 4 treys)
No doubt Eltham’s chances this season in SCW rest on the shoulders of Munro and right now she is delivering in spades. A massive weekend by Munro produced two important wins for the Wildcats.
Amber Hegge (Ringwood SCW – 22pts, 19rbs, 2blks)
If it isn’t Rooney, it’s Hegge. Ringwood’s two imports are ripping it up in SCW right now and it will be interesting to see if any team can hold them both down in the same game. Hegge was on fire this time around and was an absolute beast on the boards.
Kevin Johnson (Chelsea D1M – 28pts, 7rbs, 4stl, 3blks, 4 treys)
How good was Butter Johnson in his first game? Butter was smooth! The Gulls are up and going and Butter looks like a quality add, as these numbers suggest.
Terrell Bell (Mildura D1M – 24pts, 9rbs, 5ast, 4stl, 3blks and 17pts, 19rbs, 8ass, 2blks)
How important are Mildura’s imports to their chances in D1M this season? We’ll let you be the judge, but here’s Bell’s numbers from the weekend and next up on the Blue Carpet is Calvin Henry.
Calvin Henry (Mildura D1M – 13pts, 9rbs, 5ast, 8blks and 40pts, 15rbs, 3ast, 3blks)
Wow! Henry continues to carve up the D1M competition and must be right up there for MVP in the early stages of the season. Henry’s first trip away from Mildura this season proved to be most successful.
Ben Waldren (Hawthorn VYCM – 41pts, 10rbs)
Waldren and his mates at Hawthorn are having a ripper season and by now are surely being taken seriously around the VYCM competition. Waldren was on fire against the Falcons and toasted a great win along with his huge numbers.
Deng Adel (Waverley VYCM – 35pts, 10rbs, 3ass, 3 treys)
Well, we all know how good this kid is. Yet again Deng Adel joins us on the Blue Carpet after yet another top show, though it wasn’t enough to get the Falcons up for a win.
Elise Strachan (Bendigo VYCW – 25pts @ 71%, 7rbs, 8ast, 3stl, 3 treys)
Strachan, a former Mildura junior, continues to impress. Showcasing her talents, the dashing guard gave us a bit of everything in round four.
Matthew Wright (Chelsea YL1M – 31pts, 13rbs, 4stl, 4ast, 5 treys)
A good win for the young Gulls and a ripper performance by Wright, a newbie on the Blue Carpet. Wright had his hand in everything from start to finish.
