We are excited to launch “Play Hoops” (playhoops.com.au), a platform aimed at driving participation and streamlining the process of signing up to play basketball in Victoria.
What is "Play Hoops"?
Originally broached as a way to help participants get back to basketball after COVID-19, playhoops.com.au will assist associations, clubs and facilities by showcasing to casual basketball fans that they can get involved in the sport on an ongoing basis.
The Play Hoops platform features an integrated search function allowing those interested in playing to easily find a local competition and register seamlessly.
The campaign and platform will initially focus on Senior Domestic ie "The Casual Hooper" or "The Lapsed Baller" - adults from 18-35yrs who have an interest in basketball but are not playing formally. The platform will be supported by visuals, hype tapes and a paid social media campaign, targeted by interest type, location and registration window.
As we branch out this brand, the platform and campaigns will also stretch into other areas of the sport, driving the recruitment of players of all ages and abilities, officials, volunteers and coaches throughout the year.
As part of the campaign, local associations will also be provided with marketing materials to help drive registration through their local venues and via social media.
“While basketballers are beginning to return to the sport more regularly particular in the juniors’ space, we were conscious that many sports and activities have faced an uncertain return to post-pandemic activity, so we aim to address any gaps in the market and target relevant demographics to inspire them to participate” noted Basketball Victoria’s GM of Communications, Marketing & Digital Matt McIntosh.
“Play Hoops is an important part of Basketball Victoria’s strategy to address participation not just due to COVID-19, but to capitalise on those who are love the game but yet to commit to an organised competition. With over 150 associations across Victoria running many different competition types, we will be able to take a flexible approach to fostering participation and allow us to target areas of need – whether seasonal registration peaks, specific competition types or geographic areas that may need a hand.”
The platform is continually being upgraded and will include associations with and without registration forms open for upcoming seasons and is branching out to junior club integration in the coming weeks.
Associations that would like assistance with marketing or participation through the Play Hoops campaign are encouraged to contact Basketball Victoria’s Communications Team or through your local Development Officer.
