Basketball Victoria is pleased to announce the launch of 3XCup - the 3x3 pathway for players to compete against each other from around Victoria!
'3XCup Juniors' encourages all associations and clubs to run their own events; whether it is indoor, outdoor, as a league or a one / multi day tournament (just as many have done already), but now there is something more to play for – progression!
Multiple teams will be able to qualify from their local event representing their domestic club or association wearing their club colours into Basketball Victoria’s ‘State Qualifying’ tournaments in the July holidays. There’ll be eight State Qualifiers around Victoria, of which teams will be able to attend one or all eight if they wish, but from each event, teams will qualify for the Victoria 3XCup State Championships and compete for the title of Victoria’s ‘State Champions!’
To compete in the State Qualifiers and beyond, teams must represent an affiliated association or club, wearing their club colours.
Basketball Victoria General Manager for Leagues and Competition - Greg Jeffers thinks the time is right for the next step in 3x3, but also its ability to break down some existing barriers.
“Clubs and associations around Victoria have done amazing work in the 3x3 space creating a foundation through their events which have been nothing short of spectacular. 3XCup will give our associations, regardless of their size, an opportunity to progress and compete against new opponents. Our traditional competitions rarely allow country associations such as Mildura and Yarrawonga-Mulwala to compete against metropolitan counterparts such as Diamond Valley and Broadmeadows, but the 3XCup will now provide that opportunity."
"We also know that many of our community based domestic clubs are looking for something more. 3XCup provides that chance for the likes of the Ivanhoe Knights and Aberfeldie Jets to compete outside of their local association and rise through the ranks, going head-to-head with the Ballarat Miners and Nunawading Spectres!" Jeffers said.
With a 3XCup for secondary schools and one for adults to come later in the year; 2023 is the year where 3x3 finds its feet in Victoria and players around our state have more opportunity to play our terrific sport!
Basketball Victoria will release information on how to run events and be a part of the 3XCup via associations in the weeks ahead.
