Programs
Basketball Victoria has a range of programs on offer to assist people involved in our sport off the court. These programs are available to players, coaches, managers, officials, parents, administrators and more.
We are proud to offer these programs in an effort to provide our members with the best basketball experience possible. From the development of print and online resources to the hosting of information sessions relating to associations administration and player health, Basketball Victoria aim to provide our associations with the assistance they require to see our sport continue to thrive now and into the future.

Women in Basketball Awards
The Advancing Women in Basketball and Youth Contribution to Basketball Awards are an initiative of Basketball Victoria as part of the Women in Basketball program. The awards were developed as a way to recognise the important work undertaken by females within the Victorian Basketball Community.
The Advancing Women in Basketball Award is presented to females aged 24 and over. It recognises their effort and hard work within basketball over a large period of time. The Youth Contribution to Basketball Award is presented to females aged 23 and under. HEALTHY HOOPS |
|
The Healthy Hoops program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of those involved in our sport. Topics covered as part of the Healthy Hoops program include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Nutrition
* Injury Prevention & Management
* Alcohol Management
* SmokeFree Environments
* Welcoming Inclusive Environments
This information is distributed to our participants in two ways – via associations and schools.
Associations
Within Victorian basketball associations, Healthy Hoops aims to create environments that are safe, healthy, welcoming and inclusive for all involved. By doing this, we hope to achieve the following objectives:
* Increased understanding about the importance of providing healthy and welcoming environments for basketball participants;
* Greater knowledge of the benefits both personally and for their club and association that can occur by including some of the concepts and strategies on offer;
* An increase in the number of associations taking part in the Healthy Hoops program.
To do this, we run information sessions covering topics such as Nutrition and Injury Management. These sessions are open to all involved within the association and surrounding associations. Players, coaches, referees and parents are especially encouraged to attend. Similarly, these sessions can be run for teams as an add-on to their regular training session throughout the week. Further information on courses can be found below.
Schools
In 2007, the Healthy Hoops program expanded into primary schools in an effort to compliment other school based programs such as McDonald’s® Hoop Time and McDonald’s® Skill, Fun & Play. By working with primary schools, Basketball Victoria aims to provide an opportunity for children to complete their schooling requirements through exposure to aspects of our sport which may previously have been overlooked. In doing this, we hope to:
- Increase children’s knowledge of how health and the sport of basketball are related;
- Provide opportunities for children to learn new skills through participation in information sessions, workshops and courses;
- Provide teachers with a new avenue through which they can deliver messages about health to their students and in a format which is easy for them to convey.
